Positive and Negative Space Suns and Moons

It's sunny! It's sunny!  After a week of rainy and grey skies, we are LOVING the warm, sunny weather.  I've seeing so many cool positive and negative space art projects online that I wanted to try making some with my son too.  And then it hit me- why not cut out positive and negative sun and moon faces?   Well, here are the results from our paper experimentations.  (Aren't the faces fun?)

Let's Make Some Positive and Negative Space Art!

I traced circles onto pieces of colorful paper.  Then, I cut them in half.

My son and I each got a half.  Then, we fiddled around with our sun faces by cutting out some rays....

And half a smile, half a nose, and half a pair of sunglasses....
Here's my attempt:

And here's my son's attempt:

Then, we glued our pieces onto a piece of contrasting paper with a glue stick.

That's it!  To make the moon-face, I just didn't cut out rays.

I hope you have fun trying out this craft with your kids too.   And of course, if you love paper-cutting crafts, here are some of our favorites:
