How to Grill Sunflower Heads

Have you seen the trend where people grill sunflower heads? I've seen it all over TikTok and knew that I had to try. After growing a bunch of small sunflowers, we finally grew a mammoth one! Here's how we grilled it.

How To Grill Sunflower Heads

1. We waited till the head was sagging from its own weight. The seeds were still white and not mature yet. Then, we chopped the head off, rubbed off all the tiny yellow flowers inside, and pulled the petals off the outside.

2. Then, we washed and dried the head.

4. Then, we wiped on some vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

5. Then we grilled it face down for about 8 minutes.

6. Then we ate the seeds like corn.

The roasted flower head tasted like unsweetened corn, crunchy and earthy. Although we enjoyed trying this new food, I think we'll just stick to eating sunflower seeds plain next time.

I also made a dipping sauce from mayonnaise and lemon and rubbed that on the sunflower before I ate it. That tasted much better to me.
