Reviewing our move: Packing

Hubby and I finished unpacking the majority of boxes this morning.  Hooray!  Right now we're acclimating to East Coast living by eating delicious ethnic food and learning how to drive more aggressively.  We're also reflecting on our moving experience, so I figured it would be nice to write a couple of posts about that.

We packed for days and days.  Although we donated and sold a lot of items, we still had a ton of items to pack.  I packed most of the rectangular items and left hubby with the easy task of packing oddly shaped and fragile things.  (Hee hee, I'm such a good wife like that.)

A couple of boxes here and there slowly grew into tall unstable towers.  Soon we were surrounded by our very own city of stuff.

While we packed, life still went on.

And wouldn't you know it?  In the midst of everything, Baby Chuck began crawling forward for the first time.

Whoa.  Not so fast, spider monkey.

Big dreams, tiny living

As we prepare for our move back East, hubby and I have been hit with a large dose of reality.  It's fun to dream about cute Tudor style homes in Westchester (drool) or cool Manhattan apartments with exposed brick walls (double drool.)  However, these dreams cost money-a lot of money.  It's really quite daunting when you think of the amount of money.  Oy, I feel my knees getting wobbly from just the thought.

To choose the right type of housing, we're trying to distinguish between our needs and wants.  Just how much space do we really need?  Do we need that third bedroom?  Does Baby Chuck have to go to a school system that's ranked "8"?  Would he be just fine attending a "7" (or a "6" for that matter)?  Is a washer/dryer unit in the apartment a luxury or a necessity?  Oy.  Despite hours of conversation and going back and forth, I'm still unsure of where or how we'll live.  However, I am sure that we could live in a smaller space if we thought outside of the box.  Some people are doing amazingly creative things with their very small spaces.  Here's one example that I find particularly inspiring:

Now we just need to find that 320-square-foot home and we're all set.  Just kidding....or am I?  Muah ha ha ha ha ha.

First time on bike

This weekend a special early birthday present arrived in the mail:  a baby bike seat!  Even though we only rode around the parking lot for our inaugural ride, we still had a lot of fun.  Nothing beats the feeling of the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.

I feel the need... the need for speed!

Uh mom...can't this thing go any faster?

Easter Pt 3: Rice Krispy Peep treat

I know Easter is over, but I couldn't resist buying peeps.  They were on sale.  Plus, they're just so darn cute.  But what to do two dozen peeps?  How about making a very large rice krispy peep treat?*

* If you'd like to make a rice krispy peep treat for yourself, you'll need these ingredients:
- 1.5 T butter
- approx 24 peeps
- 4 C rice krispies
- 1 toothbrush

Directions:
- Melt butter in non-stick pot
- Throw peeps into pot and watch them melt
- Laugh maniacally
- Add rice krispies to pot and stir
- Shape the sticky mess into a very large peep
- Let your frankenpeep cool
- Enjoy treat
- Brush your teeth. (These snacks are sugary!)

Oh the hair! Oh the spandex!

Now that the weather is improving, I'd like to start running again.  After watching this video introducing the '88 National Aerobic Championship, I found myself strangely inspired to workout...and wear a shiny red leotard.

Does the nice weather motivate you to work out too?

Note:  This video contains large hair, overly enthusiastic athletes, and shiny shiny spandex.  I was mesmerized!

rainy day music

Today the sun is hiding and the skies are looking cloudy and grey.  Here's some perfect rainy day music by Brooke Fraser:

Don't... jump?

I love Leandro Erlich's whimsical art installation.  How fun would it be to try it out?

New skill

Is the post office looking for a new stamp-licker?  We have someone here who is willing to work for a bottle of milk...or some hugs.

What are you doing New Years Eve?

I love Zooey Deschanel.  I also dig her tiara and ukulele.

Four boys, four times the cuteness

I typically try to post one entry a day.  But I just couldn't wait to post this entry.

Sadly, Baby Chuck won't be able to meet the other boys in our family this Christmas.  However, I'm hopeful that one day, all four little guys will meet and play together.

I don't like a cappella...

I love it.

What can I say? I have a big ol' soft spot in my heart for a cappella music.  Maybe that's why I love watching NBC's The Sing-Off?  I love hearing the group's clever arrangements, the talented singer's blending their voices, and the range of sounds that humans can make.

What do 288,000 jelly beans look like?

After watching this video I couldn't stop smiling (and salivating.)
Who knew you could be so creative with jelly beans?

Special thanks to Alice for sending me this video!

How cute is this kid?

Does anyone know where I can find a very large watermelon?  I'd like to try this out...
