Make Your own New Year's Crown!

2016 New years Crown Craft for kids

Now that my son is 4, I feel like he's starting to really get into the holidays.  This year he was so excited to participate in our Christmas traditions, like setting up the tree, checking out the Christmas lights, and setting up the Nativity.  Now that we're prepping for 2016, I've been trying to explain to him all the fun traditions that go along with ringing in the New Year.   I purchased a couple of party horns, blowers, and noisemakers from our super market and we sat down and made our very own New Year's Crowns together.

I don't think he quite understands the concept of years yet (he kept wanting to make his crown a 2014 crown because he's 4 years old).... but I definitely appreciate that we could have a conversation about the holiday.  (What a difference a year makes! Last year he was only interested in the party horns!)

So, here's how you can make your very own party crown:

Simply grab some sheets of colorful cardstock or  scrapbook paper.  Cut out 3 strips about 1 1/2" wide along the longer side of paper.  Then, cut out a 2, 0, 1, and 6 for the year.  (Mine numbers were about 3" tall.)  Once you're done, encourage the kids to use crayons, markers, Sharpies, or oil pastels to decorate their numbers.  Then, staple everything together.  (Optional:  We hole punched some of the numbers to give them a marquee effect.)

Or..... if you don't want to design your own, print out my free New Year's 2019 Crown Printable.  Then color it in, cut it out, and staple it for an easy New Years Craft!

These cute crowns would look great with these cute DIY New Year's Horn Photo Props!
