How to Draw Cute Bunny Tessellations: An Easter Math Activity

Is anyone else surprised that Easter is just around the corner? Today I'm sharing an Easter Craft that also doubles as a Math activity. (I love it when art and math mix together, don't you?) Today we're drawing these adorable bunny tessellations.

How to Draw Cute Bunny Tessellations:

Tessellations are basically intricate images created from repeating units.

They're like puzzles. And in this fun math and art activity, you get to design your own pieces.

To start, cut out a square from a cereal box. We made one bunny from a 2.5 x 2.5" piece and another from a 3 x 3" piece.

Then, draw your design.

Note:
To make sure that your tessellation works, you have to make sure your units all fit together. That means when you cut out a bit from one side of the square, you have to add that cutout bit to the opposite side.

So for our bunny, I drew two ears...

Cut them out and then taped them to the opposite side of my cardboard square.

I also did the same thing for the arms. (I cut out a bit from the left side and then taped that to the right.)

And now you have your bunny "unit."

Trace your bunny over and over and over again and you'll see how the repeating units fit perfectly together.

Then, color in your bunnies and add cute details.
