Egg Carton Owls (and Owl Picture Books!)

We've been eating a TON of eggs lately... which means that we now have material for another egg carton craft!  (Yay, woot, woot.  Or should I say... hoot hoot?)  Today I'm sharing this super easy egg carton owl craft that I recently made with my preschooler.  It's a great spring craft that doesn't require any special materials and is super easy to set up!

Hoot hoot!  Let's Make some Egg Carton Owls!

Let's Make some egg carton owls!

First, I separated the lid from the bottom of the egg carton.

Then, I cut the lid in half to make 2 bird bodies and I cut out the egg cups to create two sets of eyes and beaks.   (Note:  We had 18-egg egg cartons, so I had to narrow the lid. 12-egg egg cartons would have worked better.)  I also cut out "wings" on both sides of the lid.

Then, we painted our owl body parts.  (We used  liquid watercolors because my son loves them.  But tempera paint would certainly work too)

As you can see, I went for a more fantastical, rainbow owl.  He wanted his to look more realistic.

Once the paint dried, we used school glue to attach our eyes and beaks to our bodies.  Then, we used the same white glue to glue on googly eyes, magazine strips that we previously cut out (for feathers), and colorful feathers.
