Plastic Spoon New Year Crowns

What?  New Year's craft already?  Sorry to pull you out of your cozy Christmas hidey-hole... but if you're looking for a New Year's craft then I've got you covered.  New Year's crowns are really easy for kids of all ages to make!  Grab some pipe cleaners and whip up these sparkly pipe cleaner crowns.  Or, you can make these easy paper number New Year's Crowns.  Today I'm sharing something a bit more unexpected.... have you ever seen a crown made from plastic spoons?

How did this idea come about?

Several kid craft-loving bloggers and I issue a challenge every month.  We try to use a cheap, everyday material in a kid-friendly craft.  This month, the theme is spoons.  Yup.  This was definitely a challenge for me!  So I'm pretty proud of this spoon crown.  It's a fun craft that you can whip up with very little prep (and doesn't it kinda look flapper-ish?  Or Miss America-ish?  Hmm... ok...maybe a stretch there.)

Let's Make some Spoon Crowns!

  • Grab a sheet of black construction paper.  Fold in into thirds and cut out three same-sized strips.
  • Then, grab your Chalkola Metallic Gold and Silver Markers or Metallic Sharpie Markers and decorate the strips and plastic spoons.
  • Use masking tape to tape spoons onto the back.
  • Staple the crown around your child's head!

Here's what it looks like from the other side-
(Ack! So ugly! But the spoons are securely in place!)

Now you have a fun crown to wear on New Year's Eve!  (This craft would also work really well with these fun New Year's Blower Photo Props!)
