Father's Day Super Hero Comic Book Picture Frame

Fathers, stop reading this post and step out of the room!  (Are they gone?  Good!) Now that they've left, let's talk Father's Day Crafts. Is there a guy in your life who is a super dad?  Um hmm..  Thought so.  And would you and the kids like to make him an awesome gift?  Yup.  Thought so too.  Well, you came to the right place.  My son and I L-O-V-E super hero crafts and recently whipped up this super hero comic inspired frame to give my husband for Father's Day.

(Shhh! Don't tell him!)

Father's Day Super Secret Message Card

Father's Day is right around the corner!  And surprise, surprise... Chuck and I have yet to make hubby a gift or a card.  (I've been pretty sick lately, so I've totally been off the ball with crafts. Ack.)  Last year we made these super cute Father's Day Cards.  This year... well... it might just be a chocolate bar and a doodle.  (Sorry hubby!)

But I still have a cute Father's Day card to share.  This super-secret spy card would be great for older kids to make for dad.  Kids create their own ciphers and codes.  Then, dad decodes the message on Father's Day.  Neat, right?  You even turn the dials to find out the code.  So.  Cool!

You can find a video for this Super Secret Father's Day Message Card on PBS today!
(And if you need more tips on how to make the cipher work, check out my comments down in the comment section!)

How to make a DIY Computer Wrist Rest (Kid made gift idea!)

Do you use a computer a lot? Do your wrists feel sore?  Lately hubby's been working long hours on his laptop.  Chuck and I were worried because he started noticing that his wrists hurt.  Yikes.  So we whipped up this computer wrist rest for him for FREE!  Yup!  We didn't need to buy anything super fancy because we already owned all the materials.

"One in a Melon" Father's Day Card

Father's day is coming up!  We're gearing up over here by making cards and buying hubby yummy things to eat.  Yesterday I shared this super rad and easy to make toilet roll Father's Day card.  Today I'm sharing a punny Father's Day card with you.  It's a watermelon card (with matching watermelon envelope) that reads "Dad, you're one in a melon!" inside.

Chuck LOVES eating watermelon and hubby enjoys my punny humor, so this was a perfect card to make.  We had lots of fun painting the card and drawing inside.

Toilet Roll Father's Day Cards

Toilet paper roll crafts- you either love them or hate them.  We're on the love camp over here.   Since we go through tons of rolls of toilet paper (tmi?) they're practically a natural resource.  So with Father's Day coming up, I had to incorporate them into the holiday somehow.  And that's how these toilet paper roll Father's Day greeting cards came about.

I think these guys are so neat because they're 3D cards that stand up on their own.  Plus, they incorporate Chuck's artwork and cute looks. Hubby is a sucker for both, so he's going to love these guys!

Melted Crayon and Watercolor Frames (Kid made gift)

Do you ever feel like life is moving at a super fast speed and you are just being pulled along for a ride?  That's what I've felt these past two weeks.  We battled an illness, hosted a good friend for a couple of days, and celebrated my sister's graduation.  Oh yeah.  We've also been preparing for our move to California later this summer.  Ahhh!  (More on that later.)  So today's kid-made crayon and watercolor frame was actually made quite a few weeks ago.  I'm excited to finally be posting it today.  I love how easy the it was to make and how lovely it turned out.  (This would definitely be a great kid-made Father's Day gift!)  But, I can't take full credit for the idea.  I originally spotted the idea on fellow Rockin' Art Mom Twodaloo's Crayon Resist Photo Display post.  And she was originally inspired by Artful Parent's Melted Crayon on Wooden Blocks post.  (These two ladies are super creative, so definitely check their blogs out!)

Painted Mosaic Styrofoam Tile Picture Frame

June is the month of Father's day and birthdays.  Chuck and I wanted to make gifts for hubby and my parents, so we made these mosaic picture frames out of painted Styrofoam plates and cardboard.

I'm so glad with how they turned out.  They're happy and colorful and made out of stuff that we had right at home.

Chocolate covered bacon and potato chips

I finally did it.  I took the culinary plunge and dipped bacon and potato chips into chocolate.

Yum.  Heart attack and tooth decay all in one delicious package.

Here's what I did:
(1)  I cooked bacon in the microwave until they were nice and crispy.
(2)  I melted the semi-sweet chocolate in a double boiler.
(3)  After the strips of bacon cooled, I dipped them into the chocolate.  Then, I placed the strips onto a cooling rack so that the excess chocolate would be able to drip off.
(4)  I dipped the potato chips into the chocolate and then also placed them onto the cooling rack.
(5)  I put the finished treats in the fridge to cool the chocolate.

These treats were delicious.  But I wasn't perfectly happy with the results, so there are definitely changes that I'll make next time.
(1) My bacon treats looked a bit like puny dog treats.  Next time I won't cut each strip in half.
(2) As the treats cooled, the chocolate hardened onto the cooling rack.  Next time I'll just use parchment paper.
(3) There was a tad too much chocolate on the bacon and I didn't quite achieve that perfect salty sweet balance.  Next time I'll just drizzle chocolate over the bacon.

Hmm, what else should I dip in chocolate?
