3D Optical Illusion Halloween Drawings

Have you seen those 3D hand drawings? They're amazing.  Awhile back I became really intrigued with them and made these 3D Optical Illusion Hearts using the same drawing technique.  Now that fall is in the air, I realized that this technique could be applied to Halloween too!  So here's a super easy Halloween activity to try out with your kids after school.  Doodle these 3D optical illusion pumpkins and kitties!

How to Draw 3D Optical Illusion Pumpkins and Cats

Step 1:
Use a pencil (I used a brown colored one) to draw out your simple pumpkin and cat face shape.  (Easy shapes work the best!)

Step 2:
Grab an orange and black marker.  (I just used Sharpies because they gave me nice, clean lines.)  Then, begin drawing straight lines across your drawing.  Whenever you draw inside your pumpkin or cat, curve the line.

(If you have a tough time drawing the straight lines, use a piece of lined paper instead.  The printed lines should give you a great guideline!  I just winged mine, so you can definitely see that my lines are not completely evenly spaced throughout.  It's ok. Try your best and see what happens!

Step 3:  Once you're done, add on cute details like eyes, mouths, and whiskers!

Don't these lined images just pop out?  Super cool.

Which one is your favorite?  My husband and eldest liked the cat, but I think the pumpkin really looks 3D.

Hope you have fun trying out this easy art challenge.  Happy making, friends!
