DIY- Baking Soda Deoderizer

I have a love-hate relationship with Baby Chuck's cloth diapers.  I love using them because they help us to save money and they allow us to put less waste into landfills.  Plus, they're so colorful!

Ah, ain't nothing prettier than a bunch of newly washed cloth diapers.

And yet, I also find myself hating them.  When they're soiled, they're just so darn stinky.  Pee eww.  Ever since Baby Chuck started eating solid foods, his waste has taken on a different odor.  Hubby describes the smell like "cinammony dead cat," whereas I think it's more of a "sweet week-old fish."

Our last load of soiled diapers was so pungent that I almost passed out on my way down to the laundry room.  Hubby suggested that I wear a double vent gas mask next time, but I figured I'd just open a box of baking soda and leave it next to our diaper pail.  But then, after finding this deodorizer and this DIY air freshener, I felt inspired to make something similar.  I poured baking soda into an old jam jar, cut out two heart shaped vents from a piece of fabric, and then sealed the jar up.

Smells, be gone!

Cheery diapers and pins

It's officially over.  We cancelled our diaper service. Thanks to hubby's mum and sister, we now have an assortment of cloth diapers. Inspired by the cute diapers' colors, my sister and I shnazzed up our wooden clothes pins with pretty paper and mod podge.  I think we're now ready to start this new adventure...

Kitty Litter cake

You can eat this box of dirty kitty litter.

No, I'm not kidding.  This isn't a real box of kitty waste; it's a cake.   This edible look-a-like is made from cake mix, instant pudding, cookies, and Tootsie rolls.  Whether you find this creation extremely creative, terribly gross, or both, it's sure to be a conversation starter at your next party.

Cake first spotted on the Edible Crafts blog and recipe originates from Amanda's cookin' blog

A poopload of diapers

Today I'd like to salute an unsung hero:  our Diaper man.    Every week he brings us clean cloth diapers and picks up our dirty ones.

So long, dirty diapers! (Can you believe that Baby Norris uses 150+ diapers every week?)

I can't believe that

it's true.  Hubby and I both experienced the phenomenon..

Prunes

I don't like prunes.  I've never liked prunes.  However, if you visit our apartment, you'll seen many homages to this sweet and sticky fruit.  Why on earth would I eat something I don't like?  Well, they're great for digestive health and nowadays, I'll eat anything to get me "going."

Here are the different ways I've incorporated this yucky special fruit into my diet:
  • Initially I tried eating prunes straight from the jar.  (Bad Idea.  They're  so yucky  sickly sweet a tad too full flavored.)
  • Then, after gagging struggling with that option, I tried drinking prune juice. (Unfortunately, prune juice was still too nasty full bodied.)
  • Then, I tried diluting prune juice with iced tea. (Prune tea was certainly more palatable, but I needed more prune power.)
  • Recently, I've tried incorporating them into my cooking.
I made prune bars (using the basics ingredients in this recipe):
You can't see those sticky suckers, but I guarantee they're in there!

Hmm, what prune dish to make next?  Prunes and chicken?  Prunes and pork?  I'm hoping that Baby Chuck Norris comes soon, so that I don't have to get too creative....

Ladies' room

As a pregnant gal, I'm always on the hunt for the nearest bathroom.  I never know when Nature will call.  But I do know that when she does, I only have only a small window of time to answer.  When I saw this set of restrooms at Red Dock (a casual local eatery with great sandwiches and water views), I was definitely thrown for a loop :

Uh-oh.  Which door to choose?

Note:  Not to worry.  I successfully answered the call.

Two things

Here are two things that made me happy this week:

(1)  Charlie is not experiencing stomach problems.
Mom- do you have to write about this?

We recently found out that Petco stopped stocking Charlie's food.  Unsure what to do, we ended up choosing another type of dog food made by the same company.  We were so worried.  Charlie has a really sensitive stomach.  Last time we changed foods he had terrible diarrhea.  After one week of carefully observing his pooing habits, I'm glad to report that all seems well.  Phew!

(2)  Our girls made it to Round 2 of the NCAA tournament.
Yesterday we watched them win.

Who would have thought that I, a clumsy nerd and geek, would enjoy watching college basketball?  I love eating concession stand food, cheering for a team, and doing "the wave."  And, I especially love watching our girls play because they're so aggressive, tenacious, and scrappy.  Tonight they're playing against Wash U, so we'll see what happens... Go Hope!

Nothing gets me going (pt 2)

like a couple of prunes or a can of prune juice

Another successful bathroom run!

Transpoosion

Have you heard of heart transplants?
Kidney transplants?
Poo transplants?

Yes, you read right.  Poo transplants.  Apparently some patients suffer from terrible diarrhea caused by very bad bacteria.  Currently available antibiotics can't help, so some doctors are turning to "transpoosion" therapy.  They place a healthy person's poo into the patient's stomach.  The result? In most cases, the bad bacteria are killed and the patient's system returns back to normal.

Inspired by these findings, I'm doing my part to help.  No, I'm not donating.  Instead, I've designed some stickers that donors could wear after making a donation.

He's baack

Charlie's back from his stay at the Pet Hotel.  We're so glad to have him home.  Though we trusted the employees to care for him, we worried he would have a terrible time.

Perhaps my fears were a bit exaggerated.

Hubby's fears seem a bit more realistic

Luckily, we were both wrong.  He did great.

This blog is rated P for....

For those of you with genteel eyes and stomach, stop right here!
Read no further.
Avert your eyes.
Be warned.
This post was not meant for you.
(I suggest you read any of my other posts.)

Is everyone gone?  Ok, now for those of you who appreciate the many facets of our human body (and don't mind potty humor), let's continue.  Recently, my hubby showed me this chart on this website.

Keep your eyes on the prize.  Apparently types 3 and 4 are ideal

Isn't this fascinating?  People actually do this type of research?  Who signs up to be participants?
