Jasper Johns Inspired Wall Art

When I saw this lovely artwork that an elementary student made in the style of Jasper Johns, I was utterly entranced.  I loved how the letters seemed to swirl in colors.  So armed with my trusty craft paints, I painted my own Jasper Johns inspired wall art. But, instead of writing out a series of letters or a random assortment of words, I included four words that had special meaning to me.  Here's what I came up with:

If you'd like to see how I painted this artwork, keep reading!

Materials:
  • Canvas
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

Steps:
1.  Using my trusty ruler (and rusty division skills), I divided my canvas into 16 approximately equal rectangles.  Then, I wrote out a letter in each rectangle.

2.  I chose several paint colors that I thought would look nice together.   (I made sure to include white to add some needed brightness.)

3.  I painted random assortment of colors and designs in each box. (I just made sure to use white last to highlight my letters)

4.  I let the paint dry.

Now, I'm not trained in fine arts at all, but I think this painting turned out rather nice.  The bright colors make me feel happy and the four words act as daily reminders of what's important in life.

Happy crafting, friends!
