How to grow Chia Egg Heads

Spring is here and while we're all still stuck at home, I've been trying to fill our days with easy spring crafts and activities. That's how we ended up growing our very own chia egg heads... in just one week!

Short side note:

Did you ever watch those Chia Plant commercials as a kid? You know, the ones where they sang "ch-ch-ch-chia!" (Wow. I really just dated myself there, huh?) I kept singing it the other day and now my sons are singing it too. The funny things you pass onto your kids...

Materials Needed:

  • Chia Seeds (We have a whole bag of them because we've been trying to incorporate them into our diet.)
  • Potting Soil
  • Raw eggs
  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Egg Carton
  • Sharpie Markers

How to Grow Chia Egg Heads:

Step 1:
Place your raw egg on a cutting board and slice off the top. Pour out the insides (and eat, yum!) and rinse out your eggshells.

Step 2:
Once your eggshells are dry, decorate them using Sharpies!

Step 3:
Fill your eggshells with potting soil and a lot of chia seeds.

Step 4:
Water your eggs and place them near a window sill.

Step 5:
Watch and wait. Your egg heads will grow green and lush within a week!

(Note: Don't overwater them. Your chia plants will die. We learned this the hard way. RIP, little guys.)
