We've caught Olympics fever

We can't stop watching the Olympics over here.  Baby Chuck especially loves gymnastics and swimming.

Are you watching the Olympics too?

This weekend

We visited our aunt and uncle's place.  Baby Chuck had a blast playing with all their toys and swimming in the pool.  Hubby and I enjoyed seeing family and eating delicious food.

Chuck liked this toy so much.  We borrowed it and brought it home with us!

Yummy!  Hello halo-halo!

All aboard!
Oops.  I think someone had an accident in the pool.

We put Chuck in a regular diaper when he went swimming.      Left:  A very full diaper      Right:  An unused diaper for comparison

Hubby and I left early because we were tired.  Baby Chuck drove himself home.

Heat wave

The past couple of days have been incredibly hot and humid.   I typically dislike such warm weather. However, I'm thankful for this warm spell because it revealed something very important.  Baby Chuck normally wears long pants because we worry that he'll scratch up his legs.  (His eczema is mostly under control now, but he still gets red patches and itchy elbows and legs from time to time.)

With 90+ degree weather outside, it seemed criminal to dress him in long pants.  So, I began dressing him in lighter and lighter clothing... until he ended up like this:

And guess what?  He didn't scratch his legs at all.
Is this the end of long pants?
Are there shorts in his future?
I sure hope so!

Goodbye ice-cream

A couple of nights ago we shared some goodbye ice-creams with my friend Lisa and her family.  Lisa and I met at church and became good friends.  She's a fellow mommy, lover of Anne of Green Gables, and blogger.

She also has two adorable kids who are always so sweet to Baby Chuck.

We're going to miss them lots and lots and lots.

It's Friday?

Where has the time gone?  Can you believe that we only have about a week and a half left before we move back East?  Eek!

We had such great momentum before the yard sale.  We were sorting stuff, tossing out stuff, and donating stuff.  After the yard sale I just let things slide.  We're a tad bit behind on packing (we currently only have one box packed.) But that's all going to change this weekend.  Now that a kind friend gave us a ton of moving boxes, we're going to be busy bees and pack a whole bunch of stuff... after we go thrifting with family...and hang out with friends.... and celebrate Father's day.....

It will get done, I promise!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Tired with a capital T

We're currently exhausted here at the PinkStripeySocks household.  Baby Chuck has been quite fussy ever since we got back.  We're not sure why.  Maybe he's getting used to the new schedule? Maybe he's going through a growth spurt?  (They say that he's supposed to have one around 9 months.)  Or maybe he's teething?

Whatever the case may be, we're trying our best to keep him happy.  That means we let him play with utensils

and prenatal vitamins.

How do other parents deal with their kids?  Eek.  Imagine having more than one child!!!

Parents, I salute you!

Dear dad-  Don't worry!  He's always under supervision!

We're baack!

We're back from our trip to the East Coast!  We logged in a lot of hours driving, touring housing, and visiting family.  Now we're exhausted and I think we'll spend the next couple of days sleeping and unwinding.

It's definitely good to be back home.

Guess what?

We're taking a short road trip back to the East Coast.  We can't wait for Baby Chuck to meet his family.

Bucket List- Tulip Time Pt 1

This past Sunday hubby attended his final graduation ceremony.
Bye bye hubby!

While he was away, Baby Chuck and I took a stroll around town to admire the tulips and enjoy Tulip Time.  Unfortunately, many of the tulips looked like this:

Oh no!  It's a stem fest!

We kept looking until we finally found some blooming tulips.  I saw other families plopping their babies in front of the tulips to take photos, so I did the same thing with Baby Chuck.  He seemed to enjoy it.

Look mom!  We found some!

Get the diaper bag.  I'm going to sneak some tulips back for dad!

8 months old

Whenever I place Baby Chuck on the floor or on the bed, he inevitably ends up like this:

What can I say?  I like big baby butts.

He plops face down and then wiggles his bum and legs.  Sometimes he'll try to push himself up with his arms.  We think he does all this because really wants to crawl.  He's working so hard to move about, but right now he just stays put and flops like a fish.

Here are 8 facts about Baby Chuck in honor of his 8 month birthday:
(1)  He's currently teething.  Two of his top chompers are working very hard to get out.

(2)  His favorite foods are oat cheerios, mashed peas, and avocados.

(3)  His least favorite foods are carrots, apples, and banana.

(4)  He's currently going through a momma's boy phase.  He really likes being held by momma.  (Sorry, hubby!)

(5)  Baby Chuck dislikes riding in the stroller.  The Ergo carrier is his ride of choice.  Bet you can guess who does the carrying...  (See 4)

(6)  He can finally put his feet in his mouth.  Hooray!  Hubby and I call him our little Asian gymnast because he's so stretchy and flexible.

(7)  He currently takes 2 naps a day.  I love nap time a whoooole lot.

(8) Baby Chuck loves it when hubby reads to him.  He just laughs and laughs at hubby's funny sounds and faces.

Happy 8 month birthday, Baby Chuck!  We love you very much.

DIY- Baking Soda Deoderizer

I have a love-hate relationship with Baby Chuck's cloth diapers.  I love using them because they help us to save money and they allow us to put less waste into landfills.  Plus, they're so colorful!

Ah, ain't nothing prettier than a bunch of newly washed cloth diapers.

And yet, I also find myself hating them.  When they're soiled, they're just so darn stinky.  Pee eww.  Ever since Baby Chuck started eating solid foods, his waste has taken on a different odor.  Hubby describes the smell like "cinammony dead cat," whereas I think it's more of a "sweet week-old fish."

Our last load of soiled diapers was so pungent that I almost passed out on my way down to the laundry room.  Hubby suggested that I wear a double vent gas mask next time, but I figured I'd just open a box of baking soda and leave it next to our diaper pail.  But then, after finding this deodorizer and this DIY air freshener, I felt inspired to make something similar.  I poured baking soda into an old jam jar, cut out two heart shaped vents from a piece of fabric, and then sealed the jar up.

Smells, be gone!

First time on bike

This weekend a special early birthday present arrived in the mail:  a baby bike seat!  Even though we only rode around the parking lot for our inaugural ride, we still had a lot of fun.  Nothing beats the feeling of the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.

I feel the need... the need for speed!

Uh mom...can't this thing go any faster?

Happy photos

I often worry about whether I'm a good mom.  Am I being patient enough?  Am I being attentive enough?  Am I being loving enough?  Whenever I find myself worrying too much, I take a step backwards and look through my stash of photos.  I look at his chubby cheeks and remember that he's healthy.  I look at his smile and remember that he's happy.  The photos remind me that our little family is making it and that helps to quiet the doubt inside.

Bucket List: Meijer gardens

Since we're leaving Holland this Summer, hubby and I created a bucket list of things we wanted to do before returning back East.  One of Hubby's wishes was to visit the Meijer Gardens and see the butterflies.  We went this past weekend and really enjoyed seeing the butterflies and flowers.  By the end of the day we were all tuckered out.

Although Baby Chuck enjoyed seeing those butterflies, he really enjoyed seeing these lovely gals.

Meijer gardens- check!

Easter Pt. 2

Here are some more photos from Easter.

We had a really busy, but really good Easter.
Hope yours was good too!

7 months old

"Mom, I'm too busy for a photo right now."

"Ok, now I'm ready.  Can you show them how I puff out my cheeks?"

Busy.  That's probably the best word to describe Baby Chuck these days.  He's always busy.  He's busy reaching, busy grabbing, busy banging, busy patting, busy blowing, busy making sounds...busy busy busy.  This little bugger just wants to explore the world.  And as his arms flap and flail about, I'm sure his legs are itching to follow.

Baby Chuck, I can't believe that we made it to 7 months.  There were times when I wasn't even sure if we would make it to the end of the day... or even nap time.  (Gosh, how I love nap times.) But here we are. You're my chunky little monkey and I love you very much.

And dear reader, thank you for joining us on this journey.  Thanks for your gifts.  Thanks for your kind words and prayers.  Thanks for your visits, phone conversations, and emails.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
