We've caught Olympics fever

We can't stop watching the Olympics over here.  Baby Chuck especially loves gymnastics and swimming.

Are you watching the Olympics too?

This weekend

We visited our aunt and uncle's place.  Baby Chuck had a blast playing with all their toys and swimming in the pool.  Hubby and I enjoyed seeing family and eating delicious food.

Chuck liked this toy so much.  We borrowed it and brought it home with us!

Yummy!  Hello halo-halo!

All aboard!
Oops.  I think someone had an accident in the pool.

We put Chuck in a regular diaper when he went swimming.      Left:  A very full diaper      Right:  An unused diaper for comparison

Hubby and I left early because we were tired.  Baby Chuck drove himself home.

Goodbye ice-cream

A couple of nights ago we shared some goodbye ice-creams with my friend Lisa and her family.  Lisa and I met at church and became good friends.  She's a fellow mommy, lover of Anne of Green Gables, and blogger.

She also has two adorable kids who are always so sweet to Baby Chuck.

We're going to miss them lots and lots and lots.

It's Friday?

Where has the time gone?  Can you believe that we only have about a week and a half left before we move back East?  Eek!

We had such great momentum before the yard sale.  We were sorting stuff, tossing out stuff, and donating stuff.  After the yard sale I just let things slide.  We're a tad bit behind on packing (we currently only have one box packed.) But that's all going to change this weekend.  Now that a kind friend gave us a ton of moving boxes, we're going to be busy bees and pack a whole bunch of stuff... after we go thrifting with family...and hang out with friends.... and celebrate Father's day.....

It will get done, I promise!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Tired with a capital T

We're currently exhausted here at the PinkStripeySocks household.  Baby Chuck has been quite fussy ever since we got back.  We're not sure why.  Maybe he's getting used to the new schedule? Maybe he's going through a growth spurt?  (They say that he's supposed to have one around 9 months.)  Or maybe he's teething?

Whatever the case may be, we're trying our best to keep him happy.  That means we let him play with utensils

and prenatal vitamins.

How do other parents deal with their kids?  Eek.  Imagine having more than one child!!!

Parents, I salute you!

Dear dad-  Don't worry!  He's always under supervision!

We're baack!

We're back from our trip to the East Coast!  We logged in a lot of hours driving, touring housing, and visiting family.  Now we're exhausted and I think we'll spend the next couple of days sleeping and unwinding.

It's definitely good to be back home.

Guess what?

We're taking a short road trip back to the East Coast.  We can't wait for Baby Chuck to meet his family.

Bucket List- Tulip Time Pt 1

This past Sunday hubby attended his final graduation ceremony.
Bye bye hubby!

While he was away, Baby Chuck and I took a stroll around town to admire the tulips and enjoy Tulip Time.  Unfortunately, many of the tulips looked like this:

Oh no!  It's a stem fest!

We kept looking until we finally found some blooming tulips.  I saw other families plopping their babies in front of the tulips to take photos, so I did the same thing with Baby Chuck.  He seemed to enjoy it.

Look mom!  We found some!

Get the diaper bag.  I'm going to sneak some tulips back for dad!

DIY- Baking Soda Deoderizer

I have a love-hate relationship with Baby Chuck's cloth diapers.  I love using them because they help us to save money and they allow us to put less waste into landfills.  Plus, they're so colorful!

Ah, ain't nothing prettier than a bunch of newly washed cloth diapers.

And yet, I also find myself hating them.  When they're soiled, they're just so darn stinky.  Pee eww.  Ever since Baby Chuck started eating solid foods, his waste has taken on a different odor.  Hubby describes the smell like "cinammony dead cat," whereas I think it's more of a "sweet week-old fish."

Our last load of soiled diapers was so pungent that I almost passed out on my way down to the laundry room.  Hubby suggested that I wear a double vent gas mask next time, but I figured I'd just open a box of baking soda and leave it next to our diaper pail.  But then, after finding this deodorizer and this DIY air freshener, I felt inspired to make something similar.  I poured baking soda into an old jam jar, cut out two heart shaped vents from a piece of fabric, and then sealed the jar up.

Smells, be gone!

First time on bike

This weekend a special early birthday present arrived in the mail:  a baby bike seat!  Even though we only rode around the parking lot for our inaugural ride, we still had a lot of fun.  Nothing beats the feeling of the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.

I feel the need... the need for speed!

Uh mom...can't this thing go any faster?

Happy photos

I often worry about whether I'm a good mom.  Am I being patient enough?  Am I being attentive enough?  Am I being loving enough?  Whenever I find myself worrying too much, I take a step backwards and look through my stash of photos.  I look at his chubby cheeks and remember that he's healthy.  I look at his smile and remember that he's happy.  The photos remind me that our little family is making it and that helps to quiet the doubt inside.

Bucket List: Meijer gardens

Since we're leaving Holland this Summer, hubby and I created a bucket list of things we wanted to do before returning back East.  One of Hubby's wishes was to visit the Meijer Gardens and see the butterflies.  We went this past weekend and really enjoyed seeing the butterflies and flowers.  By the end of the day we were all tuckered out.

Although Baby Chuck enjoyed seeing those butterflies, he really enjoyed seeing these lovely gals.

Meijer gardens- check!

Spring break 2012

Hi everyone,

It's me, Baby Chuck.

Last week was my first spring break.  Spring break is when daddy stays at home.  Spring break is also when daddy takes us to fun places like the grocery store and the mall.  I like spring break a lot.

Even though it wasn't warm enough to go to the beach, mom and I put out a towel and pretended we were on the sand.

I like pretend beaches

Of course I had to work on my tan too!

Mom said that one day we'd go to the real beach.  I can't wait to see the sand and the water.

Hope you had a good weekend!

Love,
Baby Chuck

Baby teeth

Baby Chuck is currently teething.  We noticed the classic signs several weeks ago.  He was fussy, drooling, tugging at his ears, and biting toys.  Our suspicions were confirmed when these two pearly whites appeared not too long ago.

Since this is a pretty big developmental milestone, I figured I'd honor his accomplishment with a baby badge.
Is it strange for a tooth to have a tooth?

And since I was drawing badges, I figured I'd also give him one to honor his foray into solids.
I'm not sure what this baby ate...

One giant gustatory leap

I knew this day had to come.

A couple of months ago, Baby Chuck suddenly became very interested in what we were eating
Baby Chuck:  "What is this stuff they keep shoving into their mouths?"

And like most kids, he was particularly drawn to snack foods.
Baby Chuck:  "But mum, potatoes and corn are vegetables.  These are healthy."

So, after he turned 6 months, hubby and I finally decided to take the plunge.  It was time to introduce him to solid foods.  *gulp*  At first he didn't seem to like our watery rice cereal.  But after we thickened it up a bit, he just ate and ate and ate.

Such a voracious appetite!  I have no idea where he gets that from...
