3223 reunion

During college I lived in a large rickety house with some great friends.  I always look back fondly on those days with my "3223 gals" because we laughed so much, shared so much, grew so much, and threw such great dinner parties.  With everyone now scattered to the four corners of the earth, it's always a special treat to meet up and share what's happening in each others' lives.  This year four of us are meeting in Philly and skyping another gal in Thailand.

Good-bye Michigan.  Hello Philly and gals!

I wonder what Hubby and Charlie will be up to while I'm gone...

First Easter

Driving by the mall we saw plenty of signs announcing the arrival of the Easter Bunny.  Excited to have baby take part in this holiday tradition, hubby and I arranged an informal photo shoot at home.

Thoughts

Sometimes it seems like all I think about  is food- what I've eaten, what I'd like to eat, or what I'm actually going to eat.

Hmm, upon further reflection... perhaps this comic strip shows me endorsing cannibalism. Ick.

Almost here

Yesterday it was gray and rained all day.  At first I felt sad, but then hubby cheered me up.  At least it's not snowing!
Oh Spring, I can't wait until you come back.

8:30 AM:  It's now snowing outside.Rats.

If I were an animal...

As I progress further along in this pregnancy, I'm starting to see some great similarities between myself and a familiar farm animal:  the cow.

Here are four reasons why I am similar to a cow.

1. Like the cow, I am a grazer.

2. I also experience interesting digestive issues.

3. The cow and I are on the heavier end of the scale.

4. We both contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.

Snow day

We just received an email saying that school is closed tomorrow.

Our reaction?
We're quietly celebrating.

Transpoosion

Have you heard of heart transplants?
Kidney transplants?
Poo transplants?

Yes, you read right.  Poo transplants.  Apparently some patients suffer from terrible diarrhea caused by very bad bacteria.  Currently available antibiotics can't help, so some doctors are turning to "transpoosion" therapy.  They place a healthy person's poo into the patient's stomach.  The result? In most cases, the bad bacteria are killed and the patient's system returns back to normal.

Inspired by these findings, I'm doing my part to help.  No, I'm not donating.  Instead, I've designed some stickers that donors could wear after making a donation.

Vampires and young children

After seeing my all my nieces and nephews this Christmas, I realized two things:
(1)     I love them very much.
(2)    Young children are like vampires.

Here are six reasons why children are similar to vampires.

Reason 1:  They’re super strong.

Reason 2:  They're super fast.

Reason 3:  They suck your…energy.

Reason 4:  They don’t sleep at night.
*Repeat this scene at 4:00, 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00

Reason 5:  They’re incredibly good looking.
No matter what the parents look like, their offspring is always cute

Lastly, reason 6:  They can control your mind.
Don't stare into his eyes, or you too will fall under his spell

He's baack

Charlie's back from his stay at the Pet Hotel.  We're so glad to have him home.  Though we trusted the employees to care for him, we worried he would have a terrible time.

Perhaps my fears were a bit exaggerated.

Hubby's fears seem a bit more realistic

Luckily, we were both wrong.  He did great.

Burger love

I love burgers.

They're yummy and relatively simple to make.
The great burger equation

Beef burgers are my favorite, but I'm always on the lookout for healthier alternatives. This weekend I found a new burger to try:
Yum, fresh from the garden.
Go ahead.  Take a big virtual bite.

It was surprisingly good.  The patties had a nice firm texture and were delicious with feta, tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard on toasted multi-grain bread.

Ooh.  I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...

True blue fan

You know a child is a true Food Network fan when you hear her having this conversation:

Adult:  What do you want to be when you grow up?
5-yr old niece:  A food chef.  But first I have to win a competition.

Draw me something delicious

My little niece's favorite channel is Food Network and she wants to be a chef when she grows up.  (Well, either that or a princess.  Personally, I think she could be both.)  To encourage her future culinary career, I've created these coloring activity pages for her.  I can't wait to see what she draws up.

Steak Haiku

I love eating steak
Sizzling on my kitchen grill
Charred and peppery

Here's a picture of the mammoth t-bone steak I ate tonight.  Tasty.
