How cute is this kid?

Does anyone know where I can find a very large watermelon?  I'd like to try this out...

Trip list

If you were to travel across the country, what would you bring?  Toothpaste?  Underwear?  Socks?  While visiting hubby at work the other day I spotted this list posted on one of the student worker's walls:

I imagine this cross-country traveler to be one active and sassy girl. :)

Get psyched...

it's finally Friday!  I thought the weekend would never come.  We're definitely going to enjoy the outdoors before winter sneaks up on us again...

Excitement is clearly written all over Baby Norris's face.

The bird

Lately Baby Norris has been a bit fussier than usual.  We tried talking to him about this issue.  His response?

Oh dear.

One small ham

Here's a photo of Baby Chuck hamming it up for the camera:

Dear Older Chuck Norris,
We didn't pose you.  You did this of your own volition.   We're so sorry, but this photo will probably end up in your wedding slide show one day.
Love,
Mum and Dad

So we finally meet...

Hello everyone!  I've re-emerged.  Things are pretty hectic around here.  Hubby, Charlie, and I are slowly getting to know Baby and he's slowly getting to know us.

Even though Baby has a real name, I'll keep referring to him as Baby Norris* in this blog.  In honor of his first week out of the womb, here's a visual retelling of our first encounter:

"So, you're the one who kept me captive for 39 weeks..."

"Now that I'm finally out, I can show you how I feel..."

((Kapow!)) "Take that, female captor!"

*Somehow this pseudonym seems so appropriate...

The answer is no

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a strange rhythmic thumping in my belly. It almost seemed like Baby Norris was keeping time to music.  After noticing this strange phenomenon several other times I started to wonder... was Baby Chuck Norris a musical prodigy?  Is he taking after his namesake?

They do say that (the real) Chuck Norris:
  • can play techno music with his heart
  • can stop the music
  • taught Jimi Hendrix to play guitar
  • can conduct an orchestra using subtle variations of roundhouse kicks

Hmm.  Well, after some extensive internet searching, I found out that sadly, Baby Chuck Norris is not a musical prodigy.  He just has baby hiccups.   :) How cute is that?

(By the way, Baby Norris is still not here.)

Ladies' room

As a pregnant gal, I'm always on the hunt for the nearest bathroom.  I never know when Nature will call.  But I do know that when she does, I only have only a small window of time to answer.  When I saw this set of restrooms at Red Dock (a casual local eatery with great sandwiches and water views), I was definitely thrown for a loop :

Uh-oh.  Which door to choose?

Note:  Not to worry.  I successfully answered the call.

Delivery room advice

Hubby's colleagues love sharing their delivery room horror stories experiences with us.  One colleague told him to make sure that my fingernails were clipped before we headed to the delivery room.  Hubby asked him why, and the man responded, "She's going to squeeze your arm so tightly and her nails will dig into your flesh."

Yikes. o____O

(Btw, my nails are clipped, so my hands are ready!)

Question about baby

According to the doctor, Baby Chuck Norris is in the right position for birth:  head down and facing my tailbone.  While that sounds wonderful and good, I'm also a bit confused.

Why doesn't Baby Norris get dizzy lying upside down for so long?

My funny sister

Here's a snippet from a funny email that I received from my sister last Saturday:

I hope you don't give birth until at least Tuesday! I won't have my phone charger until then!!! ): So you can't call me and tell me what a gruesome experience--I mean WONDERFUL WONDERFUL (: experience it was to give birth!!

She's so funny.  Here's my response:

HAHAHAHA!  I'll be sure to keep Baby Norris in until then.

Tee hee hee

I love scrolling through the New York Times Readers' street style photos.  Look at these funny sunglasses:

Now you can feel like a celebrity (or a criminal) too!

funny shirts --> funny cakes

My friend Alice showed me this awesome website and I was amazed by the funny t-shirt designs and the cakes they inspired.  Below are some of my favorite shirt-cake combos.  Which one is your favorite?

2COOL4U

Hubby and I enjoy seeing the creative ways people customize their license plates.  Here are some plates that we recently spotted around town:

If Hubby had his way, our license would read "DOGLUVR"

Funny Parenting advice

This weekend hubby's colleagues threw us a lovely baby shower.  We had a wonderful time and received lots of goodies and advice.  Here are some of their hilarious words of wisdom:

(1)  Don't let your children become teenagers.
(2)  Don't let your children grow up to be cowboys.
(3)  If they want to run away, help them pack.
(4)  If you have lots of children, make sure to count them when you leave the store.
(5)  Everything costs more than you think it will.

Scrabble baby decor

The area above Baby Chuck Norris's crib was looking a little bare, so I decided to decorate it.  I wanted to put up something fun and not too heavy (just in case it fell and bopped baby on the head.)  After wandering through the craft store aisles, I finally decided on this homage to Scrabble:

12 points! (Hmm... was I subconsciously inspired by this book?)

Oh the wonders of card stock, cardboard, and ModPodge!

Cheering up

I found this video on a friend's blog and couldn't stop laughing.  There's something about exaggerated dance movements and hammer pants that brightens my day.  Enjoy!

Postcards

If I worked for West Michigan's tourism bureau, here are some postcards that I might consider printing out:

Who is this random couple?

Perhaps this one is stretching it a bit too far.....

Thanks Tito Ric for the postcard quality photos!

Visitors and Chuck Norris

Some family members drove zillions of miles to visit us this past weekend.  It was so nice seeing everyone and feeling so loved.  Hubby and I were also inundated with TONS of baby clothes and gear from other faraway family members and friends.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  We're now officially ready for Baby Chuck Norris's* arrival.

(*This will be baby's nickname until he arrives.)

Below are some shots from the weekend
(along with some humorous Chuck Norris facts):
When Chuck Norris crosses the street, the cars have to look both ways.

Chuck Norris doesn't need to swallow while eating food.

Some people get lucky and kill two birds with one stone. Chuck Norris once killed four birds with half a stone.

Mother Nature used to be the boss, until the day Chuck Norris was born.
