Cute and grumpy

This weekend, Charlie and hubby did a short Valentine's day glamor shoot.

I love this little monster.

Today I'm going to celebrate my Chinese heritage two ways:

Icicle farming

With the weather fluctuating on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis, we've noticed a large crop of icicles growing near our window.  Amazed by the size of these pointy beauties, here's a photo of my proud icicle-farming hubby:

Unsure how big this thing really is?  Here's a photo of Charlie lying next to it.

*Note:  Sadly, our prized beauty snapped in two after this photo was taken.

Where's Charlie?

Our dog Charlie sure does sleep a lot.  (I think he gets that from me.)  Sometimes he's in such deep slumber that he doesn't even mind us bothering him.  Today we covered him with a basket of clean laundry.

Can you spot him?

He's baack

Charlie's back from his stay at the Pet Hotel.  We're so glad to have him home.  Though we trusted the employees to care for him, we worried he would have a terrible time.

Perhaps my fears were a bit exaggerated.

Hubby's fears seem a bit more realistic

Luckily, we were both wrong.  He did great.

Twas the night before Christmas

and all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...

or a dog.  We miss Charlie!

I bet if he were here, he would comfort us like this:

Aww, I feel better already.

On the road

Today hubby and I are driving back east to celebrate Christmas with family and friends.  Sadly, Charlie won't be coming with us.
He's going to stay at a doggie hotel.

We will miss him dearly.
I will miss his special corn chip smell,

his tendency to follow us around,
his tongue tickling my toes,
and his snuggles at night.

But not to worry, we'll soon see him again in a week!

Reinventing the potato

Did you know that Mr. Potato Head first started off as a bunch of face and body parts that children stuck into real potatoes?  (To see this picture and others, click here.)  It was only later that Mr. Potato Head acquired his iconic plastic body.

Inspired by this classic toy, I created my own fruit and vegetable friends.

Meet Richie Raab.
Unfortunately, he met an untimely death at dinner.  Mwah ha ha ha.

Nevermind.  Here are best gal pals Orangina Bunny and Katie Kale.

Product testing time.  I don't have any children, so Charlie will have to do.

Which toy will he like best?

Katie Kale is the winner!  (And sadly, also the snack.)
Back to the drawing board.

Welcome, December!

Today, Charlie and I were greeted by a wintry surprise.

The cold and snowy weather came at a perfect time.  Our fridge has been on the fritz and now stores everything at an ultra-mild 70ยบ. While that temperature is great for humans and dogs, it's not so good for milk or meat.  So now we're storing our food "Little House on the Prairie" style until the fridge gets fixed.

Doesn't this remind you of an image from an airport scanner?  I can already spot three deadly weapons:  salami, margarine, and cheese.

And now, we finally get to wear our boots.  Ta da!

This picture was obviously not taken today.

Big, clunky, and ugly, these babies are going to get us through the winter.

Sticky reminders

I stick these brightly colored babies around the apartment.  Now,

hubby gets fed,

I get fed,

and Charlie gets fed.

Super Dog

Hello everyone. Like a squirrel storing nuts for winter, I'm using this blog to store one funny, silly, or happy thought or thing that happens everyday.  Hopefully by the time winter rolls around I'll have an abundance of bright memories to carry me through the cold, dark days.

So, what better day to start blogging than Halloween?  It's my favorite holiday and coincidentally, my dog's favorite as well.  He just loves getting gussied up for the ladies.  Here he is wearing his homemade super hero dog costume. He's so crafty.
